NDO has been updated, please read the message below

The UKMi New Drugs Online (NDO) database has undergone major development and has just been relaunched.

Access is via the National electronic Library for Medicine, http://www.nelm.nhs.uk/en/NeLM-Area/Other-Lib-Updates/New-Drugs-Online-Database/ (this link will be activated once the new NeLM is launched later this month) or via the UKMi website, www.ukmi.nhs.uk/ndo.

Although you are a registered user of the old NDO, you will need to re-register in order to have access to the new database.  Registration is simple and, for those using an NHS email address, automated.  Please remember to register using your NHS email address otherwise you will be asked to provide additional information to support your registration. When registering you will be given the opportunity to state the level of access required. Level 2 access is available to those with responsibilities for planning budgets and resources and gives access to NDF Inform, linking to planning material provided by the pharmaceutical industry, Level 1 gives access to the entire database other than NDF Inform. If you register with an NHS email you will be sent an email with an activation URL.  Otherwise you will be informed by email whether your registration has been successful or not.

A User Guide to the new database is accessible via http://www.ukmi.nhs.uk/activities/newProducts/default.asp?pageRef=4.  There is now one main search page, from which you can carry out one of three types of search:

  1. A simple search – type in a drug name, condition, pharmaceutical company etc
  2. An alphabetical listing of the drugs on NDO – simply click on the relevant letter to find a list of drugs beginning with that letter and then scroll down the list to find the one you are interested in.  You can cross-check drugs in the same BNF class.
  3. An advanced search – for running reports on selected criteria eg BNF chapter, licence status, pharmaceutical company, estimated launch date.  Drug monographs can now be accessed directly from reports.  The reports can also be exported to an Excel spreadsheet.

The monographs have also been redesigned.  Some of the new features are: separate UK and EU development status, a wider range of links to drug reviews and details of the method of administration.

Please disseminate this email within your organisation as you see fit.

If you have any comments on the database, please send them to med.info@nwlh.nhs.uk.
