Workforce Development | E & T Working Group

Introduction

The Workforce Development Working Group (WDWG) have the remit of developing and updating various training tools. It aims to equip pharmacy staff with the appropriate knowledge and skills required to promote safe, effective and efficient use of medicines within the NHS. A number of training programmes are already established and are being incorporated into the Medicines Information (MI) career path. They assist in the development and training of pharmacy staff working with information regarding medicines. In this section you will find the various UKMi approved training tools and programmes and information about the WDWG such as members information, minutes of meetings, and working group objectives, for example. Members of the group are expected to:

  • Attend working group meetings on a regular basis. (1 face to face meeting and 3 teleconferences per year)
  • Contribute to discussions in meetings.
  • Comment on papers and respond to requests for information within agreed timescales.
  • Feedback to colleagues and gather views of colleagues on matters under consideration.
  • Consider taking the lead for a workstream if able to do so and if agreed with your base organisation.


Remit / Objectives

Membership to the Workforce Development Working Group is open to all pharmacist and technician members of the UKMi network and is for an unlimited period. The working group objectives are:

 

·         To develop and review a training programme for all medicines information staff based on competency frameworks and performance standards relevant to each staff group.

·         To organise training events as part of the national training programme. This includes the National Medicines Information Training course and the Accredited Medicines Information Technician Training Scheme.

·         To set standards in education and training that form part of the UKMi Quality Assurance Programme.

·         To produce training resources for use by the UKMi network.

·         To seek the views of local medicines information pharmacy staff when identifying training needs and developing training programmes.

·         To support continuing professional development of UKMi members.
