UKMi Workforce Development Working Group (WDWG)

The UKMi WDWG aims to equip pharmacy staff with the appropriate knowledge and skills required to promote safe, effective and efficient use of medicines within the NHS for patients. This may be through supporting a number of MI training programmes that are already established including the National Medicines Information Training Course (NMITC) and the Medicines Information and Advice Training Programme (MIATP) as well as the CPPE programme Answering Medicines Related Enquiries in Practice. These courses develop and train pharmacy staff dealing with queries about medicines. UKMi WDWG also has a role in supporting the professional development of the Medicines Information pharmacy team to enable career progression and role development. This includes provides guidance on advanced practice as well as resources available to support MI staff with their own professional development. MI pharmacy teams are involved in lots of training opportunities including with trainee pharmacists, placement students and the overall pharmacy team. UKMi WDWG recognises that each team has different training workloads and capacity so intends to provide a series of general webinars about managing training capacity and ensuring equitable and appropriate training.
