50th UKMI Conference 2025
Join us for this year's UKMi conference to be held in Cardiff on 23rd -24th January 2025. This is UKMi's 50th conference, and it is also 50 years since what was then UK Drug Information was founded.
To celebrate we are returning to a two-day event at Cardiff City Stadium, packed full of informative sessions with guest speakers and a celebratory evening meal. There are also opportunities to network, view posters and the exhibition and a choice of workshops to further your knowledge in an area of your choice.
Poster prize-winners and the winner of the Peter Golightly award for excellence in Medicines Information will be awarded on day 1.

When you register you will get a confirmatory email via Eventbrite. Please take this as confirmation that you have a place at the conference. If you do not receive a confirmation acknowledgement, please get in touch. Note that once you have registered, you will be liable for the conference fee, unless you contact us on medicines.info@uhl-tr.nhs.uk on or before 20th December 2024.
If you have registered a valid NHS Trust purchase order will be required after registration but before the event date for invoicing purposes.
- Two days and evening meal : £250
- One day and evening meal : £160
- Day delegates only will be charged at £150 per day.
Note that this does not include accommodation. There are a range of affordable hotels in Cardiff.
We have been fortunate to obtain additional sponsorship this year, which has been used to offset the cost of the evening meal and keep the cost of the event affordable. Note that none of the sponsors has been involved in developing the programme or in the event organisation.

Day one

11.45am Plenary Session 1: Looking back to look forward
- 50 years young. What can we learn from the origins of UKMi?
Panel discussion with alumni of UKMi — David Erskine, Peter Golightly, Fiona Woods. Chair Sue Dickinson
- Look to the future. What does the health system need from MI?
Panel discussion with Mark Cheeseman, ICB Chief Pharmacist, and Dianne Burnett, National lead for MI Wales. Chair Vanessa Chapman

2.15pm Afternoon workshops: (you will be able to attend 2 workshops during the afternoon)
- Journey towards advanced/consultancy level practice- Vanessa Chapman and Laura Kearney will share their experience of establishing first MI consultant post
- Advances in technology to support practice: How to get the best out of what is freely available, e.g., MS 365, Trello, SharePoint, presentation and survey options. Anna Burgess, Digital pharmacist, Wales and David Preece, Specialist MA Pharmacist SPS
- Paternal medication exposure and teratogenic risks. Luke Richardson and Paula Russell, UK Teratology Information Service
- Peer review – using the updated UKMi peer review process. Bring along a query and get feedback from colleagues.
- Sustainability considerations in medicines use. Impact on MI and formulary work. Minna Eii, Chair of Sustainability, Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists
Afternoon sessions finish at 4.30pm approximately.
Evening
50th anniversary meal.
Approx 6.30pm Coaches from city centre to the venue.
7pm Three course meal with fun quiz followed by Welsh dancing with Welsh folk band, then live DJ.
11.15pm Coaches back to city centre.

Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) - Current and future clinical uses and considerations for MI - Sarah Irwin, Consultant ATMP Pharmacist, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
12.45pm Lunch, posters, exhibition and networking
1.30pm Plenary Session 3: Future training needs of the pharmacy workforce - Worries, concerns and opportunities. Ellen Williams, Rosemary Dempsey, Lynn Hanning, Katy Davies and Tiffany Barrett
- Presentations and panel discussion with representatives from University Pharmacy Schools, regional and Trust based pharmacy training leads and MI pharmacy professionals
- Group discussions to share best practice and ideas
- Opportunities to questions experts and contribute to plans for future UKMi and other outputs
